Welcome to the Lithuanian “Burning man” type art madness which never ends and keeps expanding

*Meet me in Vilnius

photography by C. Cesnakevicius

Welcome to Uzupis Republic. Artist area: very boho-type district in one of the oldest and the most authentic locations of Vilnius (my home city and capital of Lithuania). Charming, unique, mad, mysterious and a must visit place in Europe. Expected the next Christiania (Danish autonomous neighborhood of artists in Copenhagen)  of Europe - to be.

Uzupis - politically very straight forward, brave, active, initiative and supportive area in the worldly issues, such as Tibet, Nepal, other controversial topics.

In the photo: white stork in the main square of Uzupis, graphically mixed with a hint of the desert.

White stork is one of the most iconic, symbolic, very closely culturally related, yet sadly extincting, birds of Lithuania. White storks every year leaves Lithuania to spend winters in Morocco, more warm deserted areas, and each spring they come back home to Lithuania to expand their families here. It’s also believed by Lithuanians for hundreds of years now, that if white storks build the nest in the territory of your home - it’s a blessing and good luck. If you get to see the even number of white storks - it’s going to be the promising year for those who look for the partner in life or / and wish to expand the family with the newborns.

Galera - gallery, place for summits, workshops & summer night cinema in the open-air

Come to Uzupis, experience the unique atmosphere. If you are an artist - it’s a perfect place for inspiration. I would definitely suggest to come and join other artists from all over the world, to create something new, great and unconventional. There is no place to be exactly like Uzupis anywhere in the world - which means it is a true undiscovered Gem & treasure on the map of the world. I would call this place “Burning Man type art madness with Lithuanian twist which never ends and keeps expanding!”

Meet me in Vilnius!

Epic Falling Water Illusion

Epic architecture by genius architect Frank Lloyd Wright - “Fallingwater” country house:

Dramatic cantilevered terraces / illusion of water flowing out from beneath the middle of the house / the warm glow from the interior lighting resonating with the autumn colors / harmonious and natural relationship to the setting / strong horizontal lines balanced by the almost unbroken vertical lines in the tower / water moving horizontally in the stream (Bear run) and vertically as “falling water” in the form of waterfalls / and the sound of the flowing water filling the house continuously.

In Wright’s statements his principles are denoted by words embodying deep intuitions: organic, democratic, plasticity, continuity.

” To Wright, architecture was a great inclusive agency through which humankind adapted the environment to human needs and, reciprocally, attuned human life to its cosmos; amid continual changes architecture could keep human life more natural and nature more humane. This idea pervades Fallingwater in accord with the aims of both architect and client, and gives it not only basic meaning but also powerful subliminal appeal.” (Edgar Kaufmann, Jr.)

The art of love in black & white: kama sutra from barranquilla

*STOLEN WITH THE PRIDE

Right from the fb wall of one and only Jorge Aristizabal - the guy from Barranquilla,  where Shakira’s from, but this guy is thousand times more proud about being Barranquillian than Shakira is. Perhaps, there’s something to learn from JORGE! about the appreciation of one’s roots, right Shakira? ;))

BOLD AND SPECTACULAR - ROMANCE WAS BORN!

Just saw the collection of Romance Was Born presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2012! I just love love love it! Bold, young and absolutely SPECTACULAR. The garments of the collection are as constructive, colorful, full of texture and wearably conceptual as (one of my favorite forever) Mary Katrantzou’s. Though this particular collection of Romance Was Born is on the same level but different dimension. It’s edgy, full of young spirit, has the flavor of punk culture and bravely and almost geniusly walking close to the fine line of the kitsch but definitely does not cross it! In one word? - AMAZING!

“Style Wars” (1983): Shut up and listen to ‘OLDSCHOOL’ them!

*crash on a couch and watch the movie on MY blog!

This morning I started with Sugar Hill gang and ended up with “B” CULTURE.

For the first time on my blog I’m happy to share not only a trailer, but the whole movie. Moreover, it’s oldschool movie, documentary, no fiction, pure reality with a beat in the background. Meet the legends who made at least a small influence but to any branch of street art  of today’s. Meet the ones, who managed to be the first ones to create a buzz in the art galleries since his flamboyant majesty Andy Warhol!

Get ready for the trip to New York of 1970’s - 1980’s!

Absinthe: The Legend of the Green Fairy

Working time: 45 Minutes

The Green Fairy; The Green Goddess; La Fee Verte. Engineers went back to first-hand accounts recorded as far bast as the 1850s, and attempted to simulate the effects of of this mystic green drink. It was compared to other real-world wormwood concoctions, and obviously there is something to this: lucidity hits slowly as your speech becomes very articulate and your ideas clear, the haze sets, but but drifts, you are drunk but you aren’t. Suddenly you realize why this was the drug of choice for Van Gogh, Baudelaire, and Verlaine - it is a surreal smooth unlike anything available on the street today that opens your mind, glosses over the universe, but makes everything clear all at once. Amazing, is what you will call it. Absinthe is what it is.

In addition: Commercial, but still pretty impressive and worth to see ;)

p.s. I can even imagine, as if it was all real. Just three of us: My favorite of favorites Ernest Hemingway, me and the drink of green fairy.. Then A Moveable Feast becomes real and endless..
